A mansion should be a testament to the latest innovation in luxury house design. Mansions are on a different scale compared to typical homes, and families often spare no expense when it comes to creating interesting rooms in a mansion that cater to their family’s specific needs, interests, hobbies, or requirements.

Luxury houses in the Philippines elevate the concept of home for its residents by giving them spaces for their needs as well as their wants. You may be familiar with a billiard room, walk-in closets, en suite bathrooms, fully outfitted home gym, guest suites, or cool luxury garages.

But if you are curious about the latest trends in luxury real estate, or if you are looking to elevate your own billionaire modern luxury house by adding world-class amenities, then here is a list of rooms in a mansion you may not be aware of, and why you should add them to your dream house or luxury condominium.

10 Rooms in A Mansion That You Can Add to Your Luxury Home

Hearth Room or Keeping Room

Relax and spend quality time in a cozy hearth room. Photo from Pexels.

A hearth room, sometimes referred to as a keeping room, is an informal communal space for the family. Living spaces like this take the form of an intimate and informal living room or den, where members of the family can come together to bond, watch television, read, or play games.

This family room typically includes a fireplace or hearth, hence the term hearth room. It is frequently near the kitchen so that family members may come in and out and talk while making a delicious family dinner.

Butler Pantry

A butler pantry is becoming more fashionable again and is one of the most requested additions in luxury homes. Historically, a butler’s pantry is the domain of the butler, where he stores the fine china and silver under lock and key.

Today, a butler’s pantry offers families additional kitchen space and storage. It often features a sink, countertop space, pantry shelving, and storage.

For individuals who like to entertain guests at home, a butler pantry can serve as a staging area for food, freeing up the kitchen while more food is cooked and prepared. While the dinner party in the dining room is happening, dirty dishes and used glasses can be moved to the butler’s pantry as they are used, clearing the table while keeping the mess out of sight.

Bar and wine cellar

Create a signature cocktail at home with your own home bar. Photo from Elle Decor.

For individuals who enjoy a cocktail but do not like having to drive out to bars for their daily nightcap, adding a bar to one of the many rooms in a mansion is a great investment. Homeowners can choose between having a wet bar or a dry bar. The difference? A wet bar has a sink with running water, whereas a dry bar just has a place to prepare beverages.

Show off all those bottles in your liquor and wine collection with beautiful open shelving and mood lighting. Entertain friends and family with your bartending skills and create fun and unique cocktails for all occasions.

Private Art Gallery

Place your art collection in full view with a private gallery. Photo from Pexels.

Art connoisseurs will often have a gallery wall in their homes. But in a mansion, you might want to designate a room as your private art gallery. Display your most prized antiques, paintings, and sculptures in one curated room.

To highlight your art collection, keep your walls minimal and display art in a cohesive manner. Museum-style lighting and staging can also add that elevated private gallery feels to your home.

Children’s Play Room

Young kids need their own space too. Photo from Pexels.

Instead of having toys cluttering living rooms, why not give children the playroom of their dreams? A playroom will soon become the most fun of the rooms in a mansion, especially when families fill it with toys and play equipment that young kids absolutely adore.

For little ones who enjoy playing house, a playroom or a game room can contain a mini kitchen for them to play with. Ball pits, indoor slides, and personal bouncy castles are other family favorites. For more adventurous children, an indoor climbing wall can also be a great addition to a playroom. Make sure to keep them safe by adding padding to the floor surrounding the climbing wall.

Home Theater

A home theater is a must-have in luxury homes. Photo from Xssentials.

Movie nights are made extra special with the addition of a home theater or a media room. This addition is another popular one when it comes to rooms in a mansion. Equip your home theater with the best screen and a high-quality sound system to make each movie experience more immersive.

Choose comfortable seating as well, whether that is individual chairs or multiple deep-seat sofas. Feel free to add a mini snack bar and a popcorn stand to complete the movie theater feel.

Music Room

Music is a creative outlet, and learning to play an instrument can be a fun way to destress. But if you are concerned about possible noise from your musical pursuits, then a sound-proof music room can be a great addition to rooms in a mansion.

Aside from playing music in this space, you can also choose to display your favorite instruments here. Have a collection of vintage guitars? Hang them up on the walls. You can also store your vinyl collection here and set up a relaxed listening space.

Private Spa

Beat stress by adding a private spa to your luxury home. Photo from Finnleo.

Everyone needs to de-stress, and what better way to do that than in your home’s private spa! Luxury homes in the Philippines can feel like a spa retreat in Bali when designed with that intention.

Create your own private spa by setting up a massage room. Add luxurious towels and linens, zen music, and aromatherapy to complete the private spa experience. Add a sauna to the room too, for a complete zen experience.

Indoor Pool

Have non-stop pool parties with an indoor pool. Photo from Pexels.

Love swimming but hate getting exposed to the sun? Add an indoor pool to your luxury home. Add it to one corner of your home and surround it with glass doors that give you access to your garden spaces.

An indoor pool area is also a great place to entertain guests. Add a lounge area or a mini bar to make the space more conducive for hosting get-togethers with friends or family.

Panic Room

Panic Rooms often have a hidden entrance. Photo from Dream Homes.

For many families, safety is a primary concern. A panic room, or a secret room, is a fortified room that provides residents a hiding space or safe shelter in the case of a home invasion or heavy typhoon. It often contains communication equipment and access to the home’s security system.

Panic rooms are also stocked with emergency and survival items such as medical supplies, water, food, blankets, and flashlights. It can also serve as a storage space for self-defense items that the residents own.

Wine is one of those little things that add a touch of luxury to your life. Often, a glass of wine in the evening signals the end of your day and the beginning of a more relaxed time at home. If you drink wine regularly or only on special occasions, it can also be your beverage of choice at dinner.

Wine collecting is one hobby that has been popular among the affluent for many years. People often source specific bottles from certain years, made with grapes grown in a particular climate or location. And indeed, bringing out a special vintage can make a celebration feel more magical.

A wine cellar is a great way to showcase your wine collection. Photo from Barron's.

Wine collectors who want to preserve the quality of their wines often invest in proper wine storage. To store wine, you can choose from a variety of methods, as the best storage solution depends on the number of bottles you have, the amount of time you intend to keep a bottle in storage, and the space you are working with.

Where Can You Store Your Wine?

Wine Cellar

Everyone is familiar with a wine cellar. A wine cellar is an area of your home that is the designated storage room for wine, whether it is kept in barrels or in bottles. A wine cellar is traditionally built underground, where wines can be kept at cool temperatures.

Wine Room

A wine room can also be a design feature in your home. Photo from Home Design Lover.

Aside from traditional wine racks, a wine room can also include a table and chairs where you can enjoy a glass of wine while surrounded by all of your bottles. Wine cellars are the perfect way to store your wine collection, and they can even be created within existing rooms in your house.

As long as the room is cool and gets little to no sunshine, it can be turned into a wine cellar. A wine cellar is often referred to as a wine room when it is created in an above-ground space. Aside from traditional wine racks, a wine room can also include a table and chairs where you can enjoy a glass of wine while surrounded by all of your bottles.

Creating a wine cellar is a great way to ensure that your wine collection is properly stored and maintained, and it also provides you with a lovely space to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.

Wine Closet

If you’re an aspiring wine connoisseur with a growing collection, you may be wondering how to store your wine so that it ages well. While a wine cellar is the ideal storage solution for a large collection, it’s not always feasible for everyone.

selective focus photography of bottles

If you don’t have the space for a wine cellar, or if your collection is less than 500 bottles, then a wine closet is the next best thing. A wine closet can still house an impressive collection if you curate the bottles well. Make sure to store your wine in a cool, dark place where the temperature is consistent.

You should also avoid storing wine near any source of vibration, as this can cause the sediments in the wine to settle. With proper care, your wine closet will be the perfect storage solution for your precious collection.

Why Should You Invest in Proper Wine Storage?

Although wine ages well, it is still a perishable beverage that can be affected by sunlight, temperature, and humidity. When exposed to harsh conditions, wine can spoil, which can put your precious collection to waste.

Why Should You Invest in Proper Wine Storage?

Wine consumed soon upon purchase may not need special storage conditions. But fine wines, often kept in storage for years before it is opened and consumed, need to be kept in controlled environments such as a wine cellar. Nothing puts a downer to a celebration when you open a fine bottle of wine and see that it has gone bad.

Optimal Storage Conditions for Your Wine Collection

If you’re serious about your wine collection, you need to store your bottles under the right conditions. Light, temperature, humidity, and bottle orientation are all important factors to consider. Exposure to light can cause a chemical reaction that alters the flavor of your wine. Extremes in temperature can also lead to premature aging. Too much humidity can cause the labels on your bottles to deteriorate, while too little humidity can cause the corks to dry out and shrink, allowing oxygen to enter the bottle and spoil the wine. To avoid these issues, keep your wine in a dark, temperature-controlled room with moderate humidity.

Light

Incandescent lighting and direct sunlight can change the aroma or flavor of the wine. Light reacts with the compounds in wine, changing them and thus changing how it tastes. This is why wines are usually kept in dark and tinted bottles to protect them from exposure to light. A wine cellar or wine room is also typically windowless to protect the bottles.

Temperature

Wine is best stored anywhere from 7-18 °C or 45-64 °F. Extreme changes in temperature can affect the condition of the cork or the bottle. When wine is exposed to oxygen, it can affect the aging process, altering the flavor of the wine. When temperatures are too low, wine may freeze and expand, cracking the bottle in the process.

Humidity

Humidity primarily affects the cork that seals a lot of wine bottles. It is essential that wines are kept at 55-75% humidity so corks do not dry out and break the seal.

Bottle Orientation in Storage

Wine bottles are best stored at a slight angle, rather than horizontal or upright. When stored at an angle, the cork maintains contact with the wine, which keeps it moist and in optimal condition to maintain the seal on the bottle. Storing bottles at an angle also keeps the air bubble near the top of the bottle. The pressure provided by the air bubble fluctuates with temperature and keeping the bubble near the top of the bottle aids in a more gradual maturation process.

How to Create Your Own Wine Cellar at Home

If you have a growing collection of wines or you are interested in starting a collection, then it is a good investment to create a wine cellar at home. Luxury houses in the Philippines are beautifully designed, and you can always carve out space for a wine cellar at home to add to the stellar amenities of your luxury real estate investment.

If you decide to sell your house and land in the future, a wine cellar will increase the value of your home. This is why adding a wine cellar at home is a common feature in luxury house design.

Find the Right Space

Fine wine has to be kept in certain conditions, so you need to find the right space for a wine cellar in your billionaire modern luxury house. If your luxury home has a basement space, that can be the optimal place for a wine cellar at home. Or, you can walk around your home and find a room that is cool and receives little sunlight and build your wine room there.

Insulate the Room

A wine cellar at home needs to be insulated to maintain optimal humidity. In more humid countries, insulating a wine cellar prevents the entry of warm, moist air that can cause mold. In dry climates, insulation prevents fluctuations in humidity.

Insulate the Room

Installing a cooling system

A wine cooling system is required because wines must be maintained at precise temperatures. If you want to store wines in the main area of your house, there are numerous wine coolers to select from. A temperature-controlled area is essential for wine storage. It is also advisable to install a temperature monitor.

Installing a cooling system

Add wine racks and custom shelves

Flaunt your collection with floor-to-ceiling racks and custom-designed shelves. Make sure that your racks and shelving units allow you to easily read the label on the bottle. Doing so will make finding and choosing your wine a much easier process.

Add wine racks and custom shelves

Personalize the Design Elements

A wine cellar at home is a special haven for wine collectors. Make this space a beautiful and relaxing room so you can appreciate your collection even more. If you opt for a wine room in your home, make sure it goes with the rest of your home’s aesthetics.

Bustling urban cities, impressive skyscrapers, and stunning city skylines—are the images that probably come to mind when thinking of a journey to the United States of America. Yes, America has some of the best high-rise buildings in the world indeed, but these are not the only things that American architecture can boast about.

Being the fourth largest country in the world, America’s recorded history is over a couple of centuries old. Many influences from different countries all over the world have shaped the country’s culture, including its architecture. This is why there is a wide range of architectural styles that is present in the country, which is evident in the heritage structures that have been preserved throughout the different states of America.

America is also home to many world-renowned architects, such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Philip Johnson, Daniel Burnham, Louis Khan, Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Zaha Hadid, and Renzo Piano. Whether an architecture enthusiast leans towards historical styles, traditional styles, or modern ones, there is a massive list of options of notable American architectural spots that are just waiting to be admired in the flesh.

For those who are planning a visit to the U.S. to fancy some architectural wonders, it is good to have at least a basic knowledge of American architecture to be able to create a list of must-see places to visit before the flight.

The History of American Architecture

The Early History

Early American architecture started around the 16th century when the North American continent was first colonized. European invaders settled in the land that is now known as the United States of America and introduced construction techniques and structural systems from their homeland.

This made way for Colonial architecture, which was then adapted to suit the differing climates in other regions of America. The availability of building materials, the lack of trained manpower, and the people’s poverty at the time were also taken into consideration as technology evolved.

It was also recorded that around this time, the French government sent skilled builders such as European architects and engineers to New Orleans, which enabled domestic architecture to be at par with the buildings constructed in France. Afterward, the short Spanish domination of Florida also made an impact (now being called Spanish Colonial architecture), which produced complex buildings and structures.

In the southwest region of America, the Spanish architectural expression lasted more as it was used alongside the Native American techniques of construction using adobe. There was an increasing number of Mexican Baroque architectural styles observed in churches and in residential construction.

Years later, more people got trained and well-versed with architecture that have been taught using English architectural books. The contemporary English styles were then seen in Protestant church buildings like Christ Church in Philadelphia and St. Paul’s Chapel in New York City.

Neoclassical Style

Ancient Rome and Greek architecture have been a great influence on American architecture and the entire world. As the colonial period ends in America, the people were able to study the architectural styles of European countries. At the same time, the American Revolution took place which identified the young republic with the neoclassical style. When it comes to the decoration of interior space, the Adam style by Robert Adam was then adapted by America using Asher Benjamin’s pattern books.

In the era of neoclassicism, a massive aesthetic trend came about that is now called the Federal style. Some of the American designers who worked on this were Charles Bulfinch from Boston and Samuel McIntire from Salem. It also helped that some of the country’s presidents such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson became heavily involved in urban planning and the construction of Washington, D.C. with the classical style as inspiration, driven by Ancient Rome’s ideals of beauty in harmony and proportion. This can be evidently seen in the elegant expression of the Virginia State Capitol at Richmond.

By the 19th century, architecture had become a field for professionals. It was greatly improved by American architects with the help of various influences throughout the country.

Revival Styles

Several revival styles arose in the United States. Along with classicism, the Colonial Revival style including the Spanish tradition, dominated as it was modified with influences from the East. These can be seen in preserved Colonial Revival homes. The Gothic revival style also became a famous technique used for churches and houses. Other popular European styles such as Italian villa, Romanesque, and Greek revival architecture styles were also noted.

By the time of the Civil War, American architects had begun to take notice of the Victorian style of architecture that was becoming popular in England. The Queen Anne style of houses, with their whimsical turrets and gingerbread trim, was particularly appealing. And so, American architects began to incorporate some of these features into their own designs.

The result was a unique blend of styles that came to be known as the Queen Anne Victorian. This style of architecture soon became very popular in the United States, and it can still be seen in many older homes today. If you’re looking for a truly unique home, look no further than the Queen Anne Victorian. These homes are sure to charm anyone who sees them.

One of the examples of the use of the Victorian Gothic style is the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia by Frank Furness.

In Chicago’s World’s Columbian Exposition, classicism won again as the major firms that joined the event helped in the revival of the classical tradition in America. Despite classicism’s popularity, there were some exceptions to this, like the English Arts and Crafts movement that had a lasting influence in the United States.

Modern American Architecture

Later on, America finally became the leader in the development of advanced construction technologies. Around this time, one of the most impressive achievements of American architecture came to be—John and Washington Roebling’s Brooklyn Bridge. Many architects were able to make use of innovative building materials, including reinforced concrete, using cast iron and steel. The new designs and the use of modern materials also gravitate towards functionality. Some of the pieces of evidence of this era are the commercial buildings in Chicago and in major cities.

Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the finest architects of the twentieth century, pioneered a new approach to house design before World War I, which became known as the Prairie Style. Wright’s architectural style included principles of open planning with an emphasis on horizontal elements, facade elevations, and wide roofs.

European modernism also made influenced modern American architecture, which was later called the International style. It was used in the design of many corporate office buildings after World War II when architecture put a focus on functionality. New York City is filled with skyscrapers where the modern art style has been utilized.

A wide variety of foreign influences can be seen in Washington, D.C. Iconic architectural styles from Rome, Greece, France, England, and even Ancient Egypt are evident in the buildings in this city. Some of the must-visit spots are the United States Capitol Building and the Jefferson Memorial, which use a classical Roman style, modeled after the Patheon in Rome. Needless to say, it will be amazing to see the White House in the flesh and other interesting buildings in the city such as the Smithsonian Institute which looks like a medieval castle, and Eisenhower Executive Office Building which was designed using the Second Empire style.

Speaking of Massachusetts, its puritan city—Boston—is home to architectural masterpieces featuring Victorian and colonial styles. The architecture in Boston is influenced by the Puritans, who arrived in 1962 from England. The city has plenty of admirable craftsman bungalows and classic Georgian and Victorian Tudors.

One of the must-visit places includes Trinity Church, which is the work of American architect Henry Hobson Richardson, who pioneered the Richardsonian Romanesque architecture style. This is identified by the round, masonry arches that the Trinity Church has. Also, the Massachusetts State House and Faneuil Hall would be great to visit for an example of a Federal-style.

When is Father’s Day?

Father’s Day is a special day to celebrate fathers that falls on the third Sunday in June each year. While the actual date of Father’s Day varies from year to year, the meaning of the day stays the same: it’s a time to show dad how much he is loved and valued.

There are numerous ways to make Father’s Day memorable, from spending time together to buying dad a thoughtful present. Whatever way you choose to celebrate, take the time to tell your father how much he means to you.

It has been a national holiday all around the globe to give a day to honor fathers and pay respect to the influence fathers have in society. Father’s Day is celebrated to commemorate their hard work, love, and sacrifices to their dear families—how they were able to raise their children while providing for their families.

Fatherhood has never been easy, especially if you have six children, so giving a day to fathers is never enough to show the appreciation the world has for them. But keeping a day special to make them feel valued and acknowledged can contribute to joy in their hearts as a gift to them.

But have you ever wondered why, in contrast to Mother’s Day, it’s so difficult to find a gift for your father, whether on Father’s Day or any other occasion? Mother’s Day is much easier to organize than Father’s Day.

Many people believe that dads can buy whatever they want, making it difficult to think of gifts for them. So, for this Father’s Day, here are some gifts for dads that will never let you down.

Prepare to choose what is best for your father, from the simplest gift, such as ties as they go to work, to the grandest, such as a house and lot for sale. Whatever gift you choose to send to your father will undoubtedly be appreciated.

Father’s Day is a special day to celebrate the father figure in our lives. It is a day to give thanks for all they have done for us and to show our appreciation for their never-ending love and support. And what better way to show our appreciation than by giving them the one thing they really want: the chance to make their children happy.

Fathers would do anything to make their children happy, and that is why they are always ready and willing to go above and beyond to provide for their families. Whether it means getting them their own luxury condo for graduation, keeping them in a secure luxury real estate development, or giving them one of the Philippines’ luxury residences, fathers have no limits when it comes to providing for their loved ones.

So this Father’s Day, let’s show our dads how much we appreciate everything they do for us by giving them the one thing they really want: the chance to make us happy.

But how about you? What are you willing to give to your Dad this Father’s day?  You still have time before celebrating Father’s Day on this third Sunday in June. If this is your first father’s day experience, here are easy gift ideas for this coming Father’s Day that you can consider.

1. Baseball Cap

Dad enjoys playing with his children, whether it is inside or outside their wealthy modern luxury home in the Philippines. Their hearts flutter when they’re playing with their children, so why not give him an item to wear while he’s playing with you? A baseball cap, also known as a “dad cap,” is a simple present that you might send to your father. Choose his favorite team’s color, keep it simple, and he’ll undoubtedly use it one day.

2. Neck Ties

Dads are the staple of every family. They work hard to provide for their loved ones and always put others before themselves. On Father’s Day, we like to show our dads how much we appreciate everything they do for us. One way to do this is by giving them a gift that they can use and enjoy. A necktie is a perfect gift for any father figure in your life. Not only are they affordable, but they also come in a variety of colors and styles.

This way, you can find the perfect tie for your dad that suits his personality and taste. He can wear it with pride, knowing that it was given to him by his favorite child. So next time you’re stumped on what to get your dad for Father’s Day, remember that a necktie is always a great option.

3. Sunglasses

Fathers usually don’t want their emotions to be read, so wearing eyewear will help them hide their real emotions. Sunglasses also add appeal to their outfit of the day as they go out of their luxury homes. Whether it is for protection against the sun’s harmful rays or to keep the wind and rain out of their eyes, a good pair of sunglasses is a necessity for any father.

This Father’s Day, give the gift of sunglasses to the father in your life. He will appreciate the thoughtfulness and practicality of your gift, and you can be sure that he will use them often.

4. Sneakers

Father’s Day is a time to celebrate dads and all they do for us. It can be tough to find the perfect gift for dad, but one thing you can’t go wrong with is a pair of new shoes. Dads have the biggest role to play in the family, and they always seem to be on the go. A new pair of sneakers or dress shoes will let dad know that you see how hard he works and appreciate all he does. And even though we can never quite fill our father’s shoes, it’s nice to know we can always come close. So this Father’s Day, give dad the gift of new shoes and let him know how much you care.

5. Watch

Time is gold for dads, and every minute counts when it comes to providing for their families. That’s why giving them a watch for Father’s Day is such a brilliant idea. Not only do dads love wearing watches to keep track of their time, but they’re also usually the on-time human beings in the family. When it comes to fatherhood, time management is key.

By gifting your dad a watch this Father’s Day, you’ll not only be showing him how much you care, but you’ll also be helping him out in a big way. Starting young is a piece of advice that young adults often hear from their elders. Though the intention is usually good, it is undeniable that starting any venture at a young age is often intimidating, especially when it comes to goals that include one’s finances.

Nowadays, putting a person’s entire savings in the bank is considered a bad and lazy choice. The hustle culture the world has today leans towards the idea of making the money work, not the other way around. This is why an increasing number of people have been interested in investments such as the stock market in recent years. Many young adults got involved with day trading, especially during the height of the pandemic, with more individuals finally getting the extra time at home to learn about it.

However, make no mistake because investing is still complicated and risky. These days, the global economy is still on its way to recovery from the health crisis that plagued the world for the past two years. Many sectors have good outlooks for the post-pandemic future, but as cliche as it may sound, nothing is still certain.

Good thing for new investors, though investing is becoming the norm, many investing services offer products in the market to make it less intimidating. Many professional fund managers comprehensively explain various investment products such as exchange-traded and mutual funds that investors will have to choose from for the ones that suit their portfolio the most. This includes their purpose for the investment and their risk tolerance.

Before Making An Investment

Financial planning is one of the things that all young adults should do. It will give them a clear picture of their current financial status, their financial goals, and what they need to do to go there. Getting into it as early as possible is best to avoid making financial mistakes that might negatively affect one’s finances.

Before investing, young adults should accomplish the following items to ensure they are ready to play around with the risks of investing their money.

Secure an emergency fund.

An emergency fund is as straightforward as it sounds. For a young adult with a steady cash flow through a job or a business, it is vital to set aside a certain amount of money in the bank for emergencies such as unemployment, sudden medical expenses, car or home fixes, and other scenarios. This is important, especially if one does not want to fall deep into credit card debt when unforeseen situations arise.

Financial experts highlight the importance of saving for an emergency fund

How much should an emergency fund be? The standard rule is that it is around six times or half a year’s worth of one’s monthly expenses.

Pay off debt.

Speaking of debt, the sure way to financial freedom is being free of it. Debt, when not handled correctly, grows because of interest. As much as possible, it is best to pay off debt on time to avoid this.

Get insured.

On top of saving for an emergency fund, getting insured for life’s unexpected events such as critical illness, hospitalization, or even death is best. Some people consider insurance as an investment, but the reality is it is more of a necessity. It provides financial security for the insured and the family they will be leaving behind; fool-proof protection for circumstances that will hurt the family’s financial situation.

Establish good spending habits.

While owning a credit card has many advantages, it can also cause many problems for people, especially those with bad spending habits. To avoid this, it is best to establish a spending limit according to one’s cash flow. Determine how much is spent each month on necessities, savings, insurance, and debt payments. This will clearly show how much can be used for investments and other miscellaneous activities that will not hurt one’s finances.

Investments that Young Adults Should Make Now

Once each item in the checklist above has been ticked off, there is no room in the finances to play around with investments. Young adults rave about the most popular buzzwords in the investment world right now are stocks and cryptocurrency. Although, these are not the only products that are considered investments. Furthermore, education with a bit of luck is key to financial success with this investment portfolio. There are more simple products that young adults can start right away as they make their way to the more complicated ones and create a more diversified portfolio.

For those new to the investment world, here are some of the investment accounts that young adults should make now as they begin investing.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs)

Retirement planning is one of the best investments for young adults. Many personal finance courses will attest that a retirement plan is a great way to start having savings account for the future. Many employers offer IRAs and employer-sponsored, tax-advantaged retirement accounts, especially in the United States, which helps employees save without much effort as the payment is already being deducted from their paycheck and paid straight into their investment accounts.

While there are also employers in the Philippines doing this, there is also an abundance of investment companies offering fund management services to save for retirement. Starting at an early age with this kind of investment account is good as one can earn significant amounts over time as the money is put into mutual funds, index funds, or other funds with fewer risks that are good for long-term investing. The good thing about this investment type is that it is more flexible than traditional retirement savings, as one can withdraw the money despite not reaching the retirement age.

High-Yield Savings Accounts

With the rising popularity of online banks nowadays, people are becoming more familiar with high-yield savings accounts. From the term itself, these are savings accounts with an interest rate far higher than those usually offered by traditional banks. Although plenty of banks are now offering this, the challenge is ensuring that the online banking facility is legitimate and FDIC-insured at least.

Young people, in particular, are more open to online banking, so this is a popular way to make money grow faster for the younger generation. Still, it is best to research among the many available options as there might be factors that might not be suitable for the depositor, such as the savings’ accessibility, extra bank fees, and minimum balance requirement. See the list below for the items to watch out for:

Initial Deposit Requirement

Banks have different amounts of required initial deposit amount to be able to open an account. It is one of the first things to find out and secure to proceed with the application successfully. Given that this is a high-yield savings account, the deposit requirement is typically higher than most savings accounts.

Minimum Balance Requirement

Another important factor that might affect the decision to open an account with a certain bank is the minimum balance requirement. Failure to keep this amount in the account will result in extra fees and, eventually, it’s closing. It is critical to be aware of this information before opening an account.

Interest Rate

The interest rate is the bank’s main selling point. For many online banks, the interest rate is much higher than what is offered in typical banks, so many are making the switch. Although, it is still recommended to keep an account with reputable and trusted banks as this may help in securing loans for housing or a car in the future.

Extra Fees and Links to Other Banks

Bank fees may sound like a bit of trouble at first, but adding it all up per transaction, the amount can be burdensome. It is best to avoid banks known to charge fees for every transaction despite having a reasonable interest rate because the compound interest earned will not be worth it after all.

Also, it is essential to know what partner banks will make it easy to do transactions like transferring money without much hassle and fees.

Accessibility

Online payments are now available for many businesses, but there is still a need for cash, no doubt. Is the bank offering an ATM card for the withdrawal of funds? If yes, does the request entail a fee? And if not, what are the options? This information has to be disclosed to the potential account holder.

Deposit Options

Depositing money to the savings account must be hassle-free and secure. A bank with a faulty online banking facility might expose account holders to fraud, which no one would want to experience. It is best to look for reviews regarding this before processing the application for a new account.

Compounding Method

There are online banks these days that show the interest earned by account holders daily, which is exciting, especially for new investors. Naturally, people will think that frequent compounding will increase the take-home yield. It depends on the account holder what will be their preference in this area which can drive them to choose a certain provider for their high-yield savings account.

Real Estate on your Investment Portfolio

In the Philippines and many parts of the world, working professionals prioritize owning a home. It is considered traditional financial wisdom that real estate is one of the best investments. This advice still remains true to this day. The magic word is equity.

For young adults who are planning to dwell in one place for a long time, buying rather than renting might be the best option. In several years, the property will be accumulating enough equity that even if the investment ends up being up for resale, the owner will still gain profit from it.

Many young adults this generations, also known as millennials, aim to be homeowners | Photo by David Macbee from Pexels

Buying a real estate property, a residential home, for example, is the most intimidating option among this list of investments for young adults. However, starting young in saving to achieve this goal is best for aspiring homeowners.

Nowadays, there are plenty of options that homebuyers can try such as rent-to-own properties and pre-selling options that will allow them to acquire a real estate property through long-term, staggered payments. Investing in real estate is a challenging feat but it is also very much possible.

According to a report in 2021, 37% of homebuyers are millennials which is the strongest consumer market at this time. In the coming years, more and more millennials are predicted to make up a bigger proportion of homebuyers and will make up the largest share of real estate investors for the next generation.

Aside from homeownership, young investors are going for real estate properties as an investing strategy. It is one of the alternative investments aside from the stock market because these two are the ones that are observed to increase in value over time with the global inflation reaching a record high. Whether it is for personal use or a mutual fund for real estate, this industry remains to be one of the stable and lucrative investment options for both professional and young investors.

Invest in Luxury Real Estate Now!

One of the most underrated investments that a person can make is prioritizing one’s living conditions such as the environment, convenience, and comfort which are not being advocated enough. In a generation when the hustle is being applauded, taking care of one’s self and loved ones is often overlooked. It is time to consider this as a vital investment as well.

Switzerland is one of the top dream destinations in the world. This mountainous country located in central Europe, despite being relatively small in size, has so much to offer travelers. The breathtaking beauty of the Alps or the sweetness of Swiss chocolates is not what Switzerland is all about, it is also known as a country that is rich when it comes to architecture.

Switzerland is known for its iconic architectural design in the middle of nature’s scenic views

Some of the popular travel tours for visitors in Switzerland include sightseeing in various cities like Zürich and Geneva that feature architectural sites overflowing with history and inspiration. Visiting Switzerland is not only for lovers of nature but also for those who are interested in a journey through different eras of Swiss architecture.

The Influences on Swiss Architecture

Switzerland’s location is a major factor that has impacted the great diversity in the country over the years, such as its four national languages. As for architecture, the first and most obvious driving force that led to the Swiss iconic and diverse architectural traditions, especially when it comes to residential buildings, is the country’s climate, which entails a need to adapt to the cold winters and lots of precipitation all year round.

The other factor is the influence that Switzerland got from its neighboring countries, which are also known for their bountiful architectural histories, such as Italy, Germany, and France.

The influences of its neighboring countries have great impact on Switzerland’s culture and traditions

The Romans and Italians: The Economic and Cultural Boom

In around the third century BC, the Romans were successful in conquering the present-day Southern Ticino of Switzerland. Many years later, they were also able to conquer the Rhone Valley including Geneva which enabled them to control Italy to Spain’s transport route. During this time, Switzerland, as we know it today, was divided into five Roman provinces.

During Switzerland’s time under Roman rule, administrative centers, schools, and roads for transport routes were built which heavily impacted the country’s architecture up to this day. This continued for many years that by 260 AD, still under Roman dominion, Switzerland’s economy and culture experienced a so-called “boom.” Urbanization made way for prosperity in the region, and the mix of the country’s ancient tradition with the Mediterranean influences introduced by Romans was widely accepted and remembered to be free of conflict.

On top of the Roman influence in Switzerland, Italy remains a cultural stronghold especially in the present day with hundreds of thousands Italians immigrating to Switzerland which makes them the biggest expatriate community in the country. The Italian labor force is being acknowledged as a major factor in Switzerland’s current economic situation.

But it is not just the economy though. Because of Switzerland’s long history with its neighbor Italy, many aspects of its culture have been undoubtedly influenced like its architecture. Today, the influence of Romans and Italians are mostly seen in the northern parts of Switzerland.

Germans: Various Architectural Trends

In the present day, German-Swiss architecture received recognition all over the world for its consistency when it comes to construction and aesthetic. Although, the architecture of Germany and its influence on other countries such as Switzerland has a diverse history that goes a long way back.

Over the years, Germany’s architectural trends include the Pre-Medieval Carolingian, Medieval Romanesque Style, Gothic Architecture, Renaissance, and Baroque Architecture. Later, design trends such as Neo-Classical and Neo-Renaissance eras have arisen as well. These architectural designs are still existing in many German architectural designs both in cities and rural areas. Even the iconic Swiss style of chalets are being attributed to foreign architects, some of them Germans.

Residential buildings and housing have included unique German architecture trends called   Low German House and the High German House which are farmhouses common in Northern and Central Germany, respectively.

The influence of German-style architecture is mostly seen in the southern parts of the country.

French: Modern Architecture

Last on the list is the influence of the French in Switzerland’s architecture which is mostly seen in the eastern parts of the country.

The modern architecture in Switzerland is being attributed to Swiss-French genius architect Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, more commonly known by his pseudonym Le Corbusier. After World War II,  Le Corbusier became one of the architects who defined this architecture throughout Europe and the United States of America. Today, Le Corbusier has 17 sites located in seven different countries that are considered World Heritage Sites. This just proves that Swiss architecture is also apparent not just within Switzerland but in many countries all over the world.

Switzerland’s Traditional vs. Modern Architecture

With the various influences that Switzerland received from its neighboring countries when it comes to architecture, there are no particular indications of Swiss architecture aside from its rich history and their luxurious feel. It is also observed that Swiss historic core buildings feature major design trends that are evident among European countries.

On the other hand, unlike other countries in Europe, the architecture in Switzerland is considered premium by a lot of people with the stunning beauty of nature which provides an excellent backdrop to the country’s equally stunning architectural designs.

Nowadays, traditional and modern swiss architecture are evident in recent Swiss developments

Traditional Swiss Architecture

Aside from Le Corbusier’s works, there are a few more locations in Switzerland that have been recognized as some of the world’s heritage sites such as the city of Berne which is considered to be a “Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO which is protected by historic preservation laws. The country’s ability to preserve plenty of the world’s architectural wonders that are surely notable gems, historically and culturally speaking, is worthy of applause.

Switzerland’s traditional architecture is captivating with its old buildings dating back from the 1800s, religious buildings with medieval design, arches and arcades used on houses, and well-defined streets as transport routes. These majestic architectural works are some of the top reasons people are traveling all the way to Switzerland to personally witness the preservation of such man-made wonders.

Here are some of the examples of traditional Swiss architecture that are still abundant in the country up to this day:

Swiss Chalets

When thinking of a house design that perfectly complements a breathtaking mountainous backdrop, the Swiss chalet instantly comes to mind. This traditional design exudes an aura of tranquility and great comfort, both to those who are looking at it and, more so, to those who are living in it.

Traditional Swiss chalets have several features in common—gabled roofs with eaves that are overhanging, the famous rustic aesthetic, decorative brackets and ornaments, and the overall homey yet luxurious feeling they provide.

Today, many countries have adopted this design for their world-class luxury real estate developments. Crosswinds Tagaytay is one of the most popular luxury communities that use this architectural design, which is mainly inspired by the Swiss style of chalets, is Brittany Corporation’s Crosswinds Tagaytay.

Churches and Monasteries

Switzerland is home to some of the most stunning churches and monasteries in the world. The country has a long history of both Catholic and Protestant faiths, and this is evident in the abundance of church construction and monasteries. These locations are popular to tourists because of their divine splendor that are surely worth-seeing in the flesh.

The Swiss take great pride in their architecture, and the churches and monasteries are no exception. These structures are intricately designed, and they offer a glimpse into the rich history and culture of Switzerland. If you are ever in Switzerland, be sure to visit some of these beautiful religious sites.

Castles

Switzerland is home to some of the most beautiful castles in the world. These magnificent structures reflect the country’s rich history and culture and are a popular tourist destination for those who love to explore medieval architecture. Many of the castles date back to the days of the Swiss aristocracy when powerful families ruled over the country.

Today, visitors can tour these impressive buildings and learn about the fascinating people who once lived within their walls. From grandiose palaces to hunkered-down fortresses, each castle has its own unique story to tell. So whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a fairytale setting, be sure to add Switzerland’s castles to your travel list.

Fortifications

Many countries around the globe built defensive walls to protect themselves from being conquered by neighboring empires. These walls or fortifications, though considered obsolete in today’s society, are still preserved because of its history and ancient beauty. Such architectural works are now being visited as must-see tourist destinations, which include the ones found in Switzerland that dates back as early as the the Middle Ages up to the 19th century.

Modern Swiss Architecture

Currently, Switzerland has a reputation of being an open-air museum because of the generous amount of gorgeous architectural works all over the country. Although traditional designs have been in the limelight for a long, Switzerland has undoubtedly shown great potential when it comes to these architectural designs with modern Swiss architects leading the way for the past decades.

As previously mentioned, one of the most popular architects of Swiss-French origin, Le Corbusier, has created plenty of architectural masterpieces in his lifetime in different countries around the world.

Outside of the Old City, you’ll find a mix of traditional Swiss architecture and more modern styles. Whether you’re admiring the intricate carving on a wooden chalet or the sleek lines of a glass skyscraper, Bern is sure to please any architecture lover.

Studio Monte Rosa

If seeing the Alps in the flesh is a priority, then going to Studio Monte Rosa is like hitting two birds with one stone. It is located over 2,500 meters at the highest peak of the Swiss alps, which will provide an astonishing view of the Matterhorn, Gorner, and Grenz glaciers.

Studio Monte Rosa is wrapped in an aluminum facade that glitters as the light and its environment are reflected on it. Considering the difficulties in building it because of the high-altitude and harsh surroundings, it is a must-see masterpiece to visit.

For some Filipinos, June 12 is just another holiday, a great time to take a break from work or school. But there’s always something else going on beneath the surface: a celebration of liberty and solidarity. June 12 is Philippine Independence Day, commemorating the day in 1898 when the Philippines declared independence from Spanish colonial rule.

For many Filipinos, it’s a time to reflect on the country’s complex history and celebrate Filipino culture and identity. It’s also a time to come together as a community and to reaffirm our commitment to the values of liberty and democracy. In short, June 12 is a day that is both celebratory and reflective, a day when Filipinos can take pride in their country and its accomplishments.

On June 12, 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence war on Spain in Kawit, Cavite. “Araw ng Kasarinlan” (“Day of Freedom”) is how the locals refer to it.

A Historical Overview of Philippine Independence Day

The Spaniards acquired a foothold in the Philippines when Miguel Lopez de Legazpi led an expedition in 1565. In 1571, they erected Intramuros, which was subsequently renamed Manila and became the country’s capital.

After a period of Spanish domination, a feudal system was developed, with the Spanish owning enormous estates and Filipinos working for them. The Philippines prospered throughout the Spanish period, and their rule was unremarkable. When the British seized Manila in 1762, this changed. In 1764, the city was returned to the French under the conditions of the Treaty of Paris, which was signed in 1763.

Nationalism began to emerge in the nineteenth century. With the support of Jose Rizal, an author who penned two books, “El Filibusterismo” (The Filibusterer) and “Noli Me Tangere” (Touch me Not). These novels generated a sensation, and nationalism swept the Philippines like wildfire.

Jose Rizal monument - Independence Day

Jose Rizal formed the Liga Filipina movement in 1892 as part of the Philippine revolution, which advocated for change rather than revolt. Rizal was imprisoned and deported to Dapitan, Mindanao, as a result.

In parallel to this, Andres Bonifacio founded the Katipunan, a more radical organization. A revolution began in August 1896, and Jose Rizal was executed on December 30, 1896, ostensibly for supporting the revolution when he did not.

Nonetheless, his execution inflamed Filipino sentiment, and the revolt escalated.

In 1898, the war between Spain and the United States began. On April 30, 1898, the Spanish fleet was defeated by the Americans in Manila Bay. Filipino revolutionaries took advantage of the situation and besieged Manila, declaring the Philippines’ independence on June 12, 1898.

The Philippine Flag

On the Philippine Independence Day, the Philippine national flag was displayed publicly for the first time. It was designed by Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo, and Delfina Herbosa.

rising flag of Philippines during daytime - Independence Day

The Philippine flag has a distinctive appearance. On a red, blue, and white background, it has three golden stars and a sun:

The three stars signify the three major island areas of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The eight major provinces that took part in the revolution are represented by the sun and its eight rays.

The colors red and blue, according to General Emilio Aguinaldo, represent the bravery of the Filipino people, while the color blue symbolizes the Filipinos’ willingness to die rather than surrender to the enemy, and the color white symbolizes the Filipinos’ desire for peace.

The Wayward Flag

The original Philippine flag flown at Kawit on June 12 was lost in Tayug, Pangasinan, when Aguinaldo escaped to Northern Luzon during the Filipino-American conflict. There is currently no information about its whereabouts.

16 Flag Days

President Fidel V. Ramos issued Executive Order No. 179 in 1994, ordering the celebration of Independence Day to last 16 days, from May 28 to June 12. This decree established flag days, during which all government offices, business establishments, educational institutions, and private residences are required to display the Philippine flag.

Indeed, many places in the Philippines fly their flag everywhere in the days leading up to Independence Day. However, one can’t just hang it up wherever.

Make sure the flag is flown correctly.

The blue side of the flag should be on the left when it hangs vertically. On the right, the red side should be. The white portion should be on top.

The blue side should always be on top when flying it horizontally. At the bottom, the red side should be. The white portion should be the closest to the pole.

This is significant for a reason. If the flag is turned over with red on the left or top, the country is at war!

The melody for the Philippines’ national anthem

The melody for the Philippines’ national anthem was first played on independence day after General Aguinaldo raised the flag. The San Francisco de Malabon marching band played the “Marcha Nacional Filipina”, which quickly became a symbol of hope and freedom for the people of the Philippines.

The national anthem has been updated several times over the years, but the original melody has remained the same. It is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the Filipino people, and it is always stirring to hear it played on independence day.

The change of date: What is the official Independence Day of the Philippines?

A review of Philippine history also reveals that the country was ruled by another country a little more after gaining independence. Spain eventually delivered the Philippines to the United States.

The change of date - Independence Day

The United States administration wanted the Republic of the Philippines to become a state like Hawaii in 1946, but the Philippines declared independence.  July 4th is a special day for Americans, marking the country’s independence from British rule. In the Philippines, Independence Day is also celebrated on July 4th, but with a very different story. Philippine independence was first realized on June 12, 1898, when Emilio Aguinaldo declared independence from Spanish colonial rule.

However, the country didn’t gain full independence until 1946, when it was granted by the United States. Therefore, President Diosdado Macapagal saw it fit to change the date of Philippine Independence Day to June 12th in 1962, to more accurately reflect the country’s history. Now, both America and the Philippines celebrate their independence on separate days, but the shared connection between the two countries is still commemorated.

124th year of Independence

Today  the Philippines commemorates its 124th anniversary of independence.

Activists in the Philippines have a long history of using Independence Day as an opportunity to protest. In recent years, Bonifacio Shrine and Mendiola have both been popular rally points for independence day protests. Protesters typically use Independence Day as an opportunity to draw attention to various social and political issues.

For example, some protesters may call for an end to corruption, while others may advocate for greater respect for human rights. Regardless of their specific goals, Independence Day protests provide a powerful way for activists to voice their concerns and make their voices heard.

Nationalist groups may potentially demonstrate outside the Chinese Consulate in Metro Manila to protest Beijing’s assertiveness in disputed South China Sea waters, or outside the US Embassy in Metro Manila to demonstrate against the presence of US troops in the Philippines. Each protest will most likely draw dozens if not hundreds, of people. While the rallies are expected to be peaceful, some conflicts are possible.

Prepare for heightened security around any rally or Independence Day program sites. Allow extra time to get to locations near potential program and protest locations. Follow all official instructions and cooperate if you are stopped by authorities for security or health checks

The majority of families end up deciding that they want to make their home in a metropolis when they are thinking about where they should settle down. Furthermore, it can be attributed to the fact that it is easier for parents who work outside the home to transfer their children to and from their various city schools. On top of that, a lot of individuals have the mindset that city life is superior to country life since they think it offers more opportunities.

This offers improved career chances, more opportunities to explore for educational attainment, closer proximity to commercial enterprises, recreational locations, markets, eateries, and business districts, and a greater variety of educational attainment options.

The advantages of living in the South

Living in the city, and more specifically in the Metro Manila area, does come with a number of drawbacks, though. Take, for instance, the overcrowded streets and the traffic that is moving at a snail’s pace. Regardless of whether it is holiday season or a routine working day, the flow of traffic in the metro has always been rather strong. In point of fact, it merely keeps on deteriorating as more time passes by.

Because of this, a lot of people believe that they are squandering a lot of time when they are out in the streets rather than being able to invest that time in activities that are more meaningful to them, such as going out to dinner with their families or just hanging out with friends and people they care about.

A growing number of individuals in the city are becoming aware of the deteriorating pollution situation, which may be placed at the feet of both privately owned vehicles and public transportation systems.

Life in the city has its perks, but many are starting to see that the downsides outweigh the perks. | Photo from Unsplash

You are most likely giving serious consideration to whether or not the fast-paced lifestyle of the city is worth the potential drawbacks, or whether or not you would like to have the advantages of city life while residing in a more rural setting.

You don’t need to wallow in self-pity any longer because there is a prime location in the South just waiting for you, one that will provide you with all the advantages of urban living that you so certainly like.

Many people only know Tagaytay City as a great destination for holiday vacations or weekend getaways. As a matter of fact, when you miss the cool climate of Baguio City and you cannot afford to travel for a long period of time, you will immediately resort to Tagaytay City and chill in your favorite café or commercial hub. Others would rush to well-known tourist destinations, such as Tagaytay City’s pride, the majestic Taal Lake.

Taal Lake, the second-most active volcano in the Philippines, is well-liked by both locals and visitors for its majestic appearance and the intriguing cratered mouth where the lake and an island are located. If this sounds confusing to you, you have to visit Tagaytay and see for yourself the majestic Taal Lake.

It is very important to take note that you should build your life and your future in a location where you are not only safe and secure but also rest assured that you get to have fun with the scenery and surroundings as well. Aside from the famous Taal Lake, you and your family can also enjoy a picnic date at Picnic Grove.

The Picnic Grove is known for its picturesque view and the sprawling grassy hill where you can also enjoy flying a kite, walking your pet, or taking a slow walk with your loved ones while appreciating the wonderful view from atop.
