Finding the perfect place to enjoy a good book is a constant struggle for avid bibliophiles and casual readers alike. Sometimes the relaxing aroma of your favorite brew could get you deep into the pages of a novel, but the noise at your favorite coffee shop might just pluck you right back out. And sometimes, fresh air is the way to go, but this time around, it’s simply too hot to get to the next chapter.
Here’s the good news: You only need faith and trust and a little pixie dust to fly yourself to the perfect land of reading, all without leaving the comforts of your for sale house and lot Sta Rosa.
So what is a reading nook?
Well, a nook is any part of the room that is divided from the rest of the space. But this one’s more special because it’s for reading.
Where should my reading nook be?
By definition, it has to be in a room – but the location of that room is entirely up to you. Still stuck? Worry not, here are some great places to start your adventure:
1) The Library
If you’re a massive literature nerd, you’d likely have a whole space dedicated to your precious volumes. However, most of the time that beautiful area is covered with mere shelves – and, oh no! – nowhere to read. Throw in a few comfortable seating areas and some lighting, and you’ve got yourself a nook! If it’s got the ambience and the books, you might want to do the obvious and start there.
2) In Your Room
Bedrooms are sanctuaries to those who adore the peace and quiet, and you already probably do most of your light reading there. But why not bunk it up a notch and turn your simple bedroom into a magical land of stories?
3) By the Window
“You should get out more,” is something you likely get all the time when your nose is always in between the pages of your favorite novels. We get it: real adventures are the ones found out there, beyond the four walls we live in. Build your nook by the window and you can get the best of both worlds and enjoy the view while you dive into your book.
4) Under the Stairs
This is a great idea for space savers out there. Are you frugal with square footage? Do you want a creative place for your nook? Do you have that huge staircase taking up all the floor space in your home? Put those all together, and you might get a comfortable little nook like this:
5) Beyond the Wardrobe
“It is very silly to shut oneself into a wardrobe,” thought Lucy Pevensie as she stepped into the wardrobe to Narnia, not daring to close the door behind her. Obviously, it is quite silly. But it definitely makes sense if that closet door leads you right into your own metaphorical Narnia.
What should be in my nook?
Before anything else, books! If you aren’t in the shelf-ish game and aren’t looking to build a collection of all the editions of A Song of Ice and Fire, then a few books will do. However, you do need them. What are you going to read?
Shelves are another thing. Some people choose to build their nooks around shelves, or their shelves around their nooks. It’s all in how you plan it out. Either way, the end product will look amazing.
Seating is important. Someone ought to remind you that reading while standing upright isn’t the most comfortable thing in this universe. Window seats seem to be a popular pick:
Next, pillows! Make your space as comfortable as possible. The less time you spend fixing your sitting posture, scratching your back, or stretching your legs, the more pages you’ll conquer in one sitting.
Finally, lights. No one can read in the dark, of course. This can be done in a series of ways. From simple standing lamps to extravagant chandeliers, it can be done – so long as it’s there to give your nook some appropriate brightness and style.
Want to go more creative with this? Try some Christmas lights!
I’m not creative enough to do this, what do I do?
You’re a reader! If anything, you’ve lived a thousand more lives, and have had a million more experiences than most around you. So, keep your head up, read these tips, and build your reading nook. (Wishing upon a star won’t work). If Harry can be a wizard, then you can do anything!
Happy reading!

Land & Lifescapes, the largest and most successful homebuilder in the Philippines and pioneer in themed real estate development. With Brittany’s Old World European and American-themed projects, Brittany creates masterpieces of upscale living for sophisticated home buyers with a taste for artful living. Brittany offers a fine selection of home designs in excellent locations: Portofino in Alabang, Georgia Club in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, La Posada in Sucat, and Crosswinds in Tagaytay.
Plain white walls, especially when they’re newly painted, look great in the beginning. They make the rooms in your house and lot in Laguna for sale look fresh, airy, and more spacious. But after a while, they can get pretty boring, especially when you’re in need of more inspiration in your house. Only having your plain white walls to stare at surely won’t cut it, and unless you have large windows giving you an amazing view of the outdoors, or lovely, colorful and interesting furniture that go well against a white backdrop, you better start doing something about them before they start making you go insane.
Here are some ways you can make those plain white walls come alive, and at the same time give life to your inspiration-starved soul:
Painting/s
We’re not just talking about any painting here, though. The goal is to create a livelier and more inspiring environment, so make sure the painting/s you choose will be able to do just that. There are paintings that evoke sadness or portray suffering, and there are also those that are quite disturbing, or confusing, wherein you’re not sure what they really mean. Veer away from those and choose ones that portray happiness, hope, love, the beauty of nature, and other positive things. You can put up several small ones, or a single large one. Even just one large painting is enough to liven up the whole wall and even the whole room, if it’s gorgeous enough.
Photographs
Unlike paintings, which you will have to invest a lot of money for, this one’s pretty easy. You’ll just need to have some pictures developed, and you won’t even need to use frames for them. You can arrange them in a collage (may it be rectangular, heart-shaped, or circular), or hang them using strings or clothespins, or whatever other creative idea you can think of. You can also use frames, even make ones yourself, and fill up the whole wall with them. Or just choose your favorite family photo and have it blown up to cover the whole wall, like a painting.
Mural
Imagine your plain white wall to be a canvass which you can paint directly on. After you’re done working your magic on it, what do you get? A mural! Actually, a mural is a large picture painted or applied directly to a wall. If you’ve always wanted to have a breathtaking view of, let’s say, the beach, from your bedroom window, which just happens to be impossible considering the fact that you live in the city, you can actually make it come true by coming up with the next best thing – yes, a mural of it!
These are just some of the ways you can get rid of the blah-ness in your home, and as you continue working carefully on your home’s interior design, eventually, there would be no need to look elsewhere for the inspiration and motivation you need as you go about your everyday routine.

This is supposed to be the time for relaxing, right? Yet small things like insects, opening a bag of chips wrong, and getting your valuables stolen at the beach can surely make you want to tear your hair out. The solution? Start hacking.
Whether you’re spending your summer out in the sun or right in your Tagaytay rest house for sale, these might come in handy any time of the year.
1) The Chip Bowl
Say all your friends have come over and you’re all sharing a single bag of Doritos. It can get messy, especially when you’re all trying to dig your arms into the bottom of the bag. Get rid of that problem with the custom chip bowl.
How to:
• Open the bag by cutting off the top.
• Fold the opening inward.
• Push chips up from the bottom, tucking in the bag underneath.
• Watch the chips rise to the brim.
2) Coffee Cubes
Don’t you just hate it when you just want a decent iced coffee but the ice cubes won’t quit making your coffee bland once it melts? Double up the coffee by using the ice tray to make coffee jelly cubes, a delicious way to keep the coffee iced.
How to:
• Make a coffee jelly mix. Recipes may differ, but they always involve coffee and gelatin.
• Pour them into an ice tray.
• Stick the tray into the freezer.
• Pop the coffee cubes into some coffee or milk.
• Be cooler than all your friends with bland iced coffee.
3) Makeshift Tunes
So now you’re in the middle of camp and in desperate need to sing along to all the songs of Coldplay. But you and all your friends have forgotten to bring speakers. Get creative and make your own set of speakers.
How to:
• Take the cardboard tubes out of two tissue rolls.
• Stick these two together with some duct tape or any other adhesive.
• Cut open a slit in the middle of the long tube for your phone.
• With a pair of scissors, a key, or any sharp object, cut up holes in two plastic cups, right in the size of the cardboard tubes.
• Attach the plastic cups on either end of the cardboard tube.
• Place your phone into the slit.
• Rock out to Coldplay.
4) Popsicle Umbrella
Popsicles and sticky fingers often go together, and it’s never fun. You can never stop the popsicle from melting, especially in this weather. Solve the problem of sticky fingers by making a popsicle umbrella.
How to:
• Take a piece of cupcake liner or wrapper.
• On the bottom, make a slit exactly the size of the popsicle stick.
• Slide it under the popsicle, so that the cup can catch any of the melted ice cream.
• Take your time eating that popsicle.
5) Sunscreen Safe
Sad truth is that we can’t always be sure the people around us are a hundred percent honest. Thievery exists. Think about how many beach trips have been destroyed because someone stole your cellphone, or your watch, or your three hundred-dollar pair of sunglasses. Never experience that again by concealing your valuables in more smartly.
How to:
• Pop open an empty sunscreen/shampoo bottle.
• Cut the nozzle or the narrow opening off.
• Clean out the bottle so that the residue of the sunscreen or shampoo is gone.
• Put your valuables inside the bottle.
• Clip the lid on.
• Enjoy the sun. Don’t stress. No one’s going to want to steal your sunscreen.

For food lovers (basically, everyone), the kitchen is a magical portal from which food just splendidly comes out of. But to the wonderful home cooks, it’s a place of creativity.
While those four walls can be a sanctuary for your culinary dream, it can be a great way to flex your resourcefulness, and your design skills, too.
Renovating and remodeling kitchens are far from cheap, though. Statistics show that the national average for a kitchen remodel is about $18,500 in the United States. That must hurt the bank account. Plus, imagine all the natural resources it would take to get the job done.
Fortunately, with today’s innovative minds, there are a few ways you can stay eco-friendly while keeping your kitchen in your house and lot for sale in Sta Rosa Laguna looking great. Here’s how you can start:
1) Recycled glass countertops
Okay, maybe this isn’t the best way to kickstart an “affordable” list of eco-friendly design tips; however, don’t you dismiss it just yet. Recycled materials, in this case, glass, are still a lot less pocket-heavy than a new slab of marble or granite for your kitchen countertops. Additionally, the elegant glass can add some serene atmosphere to your kitchen and make the uniqueness of your space pop.
2) Beautiful wall decor made out of recycled glass bottles
Costing nothing at all, this is the perfect way to add a little flare to your kitchen design.
How to do:
• Save some the glass bottles, e.g. from iced coffee or wine, or maybe even jars
• Clean them out thoroughly.
• Dye the glass with some color.
• Find some recycled metal and a few planks of reclaimed wood.
• Make a ring and mount with the metal, if they aren’t already shaped to be so.
• Mount the bottle onto wooden plank.
• Install the wooden frame onto a blank wall that needs some love.
• Add a small flower or plant from your garden or yard.
3) Use old jars (the mason type, or otherwise) as storage.
Perfect for sugar, nuts, cereal, and more. Whether these jars are recycled or newly store-bought, it’s still a fantastic way to keep your food fresh without keeping them in containers you can never use again. Also, look at them – simplistically stunning.
4) Plastic spoon mirror
So maybe you have kept some plastic utensils from Jollibee or McDonald’s to get away with free stuff, but will you ever really use them? And once you already have, do you think you can use them again? Since the answer is probably no to both of those questions, it’s time to look for some alternatives. Maybe use that biodegradable mass of plastic and make it something beautiful.
How to do:
• Get all plastic spoons.
• Cut off handles and collect the bowls of the spoons.
• Get a piece of round cardboard. This will serve as the base of the mirror.
• Get a small round mirror and place at the centre of the board.
• Now, with your spoon bowls, make several rings with superglue. Start from the outmost ring going inward and overlap each layer slightly. Make sure you maintain a similar distance between them all throughout.
• Spray paint the spoons. Don’t forget to cover the mirror itself with a sheet of newspaper to keep the paint from sticking onto the reflective surface.
When you’re done hang it up onto either a blank wall or a textured one. It will look great on both. Then, step back and look at the person who has just made his or her kitchen look amazing and saved the world in a small way as well.

The season’s great to throw a house party with your friends, or maybe spend some quality time with your kids. With all that work and study out of the way, you can finally kick back at home and hang out with the people you love. But in this weather, you’re going to need to beat the heat if you’ll survive for long. And everybody knows that you can’t beat this heat without some awesome cooling refreshments.
So you might be thinking of just grabbing a bottle of Coca-Cola or a pack of Dr. Pepper cans, but where’s the fun in that? Shake up your hang-out at your home in La Posada Sucat with these simple (and non-alcoholic) mix-up drinks.
Mix-up drinks to try at your luxury home
1) Cookies N’ Chocolate Milkshake
Anyone can make any old Chocolate or Cookies N’ Cream milkshake, but put them together and you’re a pro milkshaker.
What you need:
• Oreos
• Chocolate Ice Cream
• Milk
• Chocolate Syrup
• A blender
How to make it:
• 2 cups of chocolate ice cream
• 1 cup of milk
• 2 to 3 Oreo cookies
• Blend until you’re happy with the consistency
• Top with chocolate syrup
2) Fizzy Raspberry Tea Refreshments
Love tea? Spark things up with some sparkling water and you’ve got yourself something special.
What you need:
• Raspberry tea
• Sparkling water
• Sugar (optional)
How to make it:
• Place raspberry tea bag in a mug
• Add a bit of hot water, just to get the tea flavor out
• Let it cool
• Add some sparkling water
• (Optional) To sweeten things up, add a teaspoon of sugar
3) Blueberry Lemonade
They say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” But when life gives you blueberries too, make this.
What you need:
• Blueberries
• Lemons
• Syrup
• Water
How to make it:
• Make lemonade the way you do:
• Juice some lemons and collect
• Add syrup and taste until you’re satisfied with the flavor
• Here’s where you change things:
• Crush some blueberries and add them to the mix
4) House Blend Mango Iced Tea
There are no beverages and refreshments Filipinos can make better than mango juice and sweet iced tea. Make your own house blend and put them together!
What you need:
• Iced tea mix
• Water
• Mango puree
• Pitcher
How to make it:
• In a full pitcher of water, pour about 3 cups of mango puree (or as much as you’d prefer)
• Add the iced tea (1L) mix
• If your pitcher will allow, the best way to get the delicious foam is to shake
• But if that will cause spillage, quick stirring will do the trick
5) Spr-oke-al (The Soda Mix)
You’ve had Sprite. You’ve had Coke. And you’ve had Royal. But have you ever had them all in one cup?
What you need:
• Sodas listed above.
• A cup
How to make it:
• Pour the three sodas in a 1:1:1 ratio (but I’d suggest putting a little bit more Sprite than the other two)
Now, what are you waiting for? Call up your friends, gather up your family, and get blending!

Nothing quite makes a home like the people around us. While you may be completely bonded to your family and have a great set of friends, the folks who are—literally—right at your doorstep are your neighbors in Georgia Club Sta Rosa.
What kind of neighborhood is Georgia Club Sta Rosa?
If anyone can understand your lifestyle in Georgia Club Sta Rosa better than you do, it’s someone who has been living in the same neighborhood for a long time. No one’s pushing you to change your ways, to go extrovert from your introverted nature, or go interventionist when you’ve spent two years building the habits that make you an isolationist. You don’t have to get along with everyone, but it would be excellent if you’d take the time to at least get to know who lives next door.
Still not convinced? Here are different reasons to find some friendly neighbors and immerse yourself in your local community.
Things to take note of in the neighborhood
Firstly, you’ll see them all the time.
When your car rolls up from the neighborhood entrance up to the moment you park your car in your open garage, you’re bound to see one of the friendly faces in your village walk their dog or take out the trash. You could a) avoid them and face awkward one-way good-afternoons perpetually, or b) make a friend and come home to a smiling neighbor every day. Might as well brush off the stress from a rough workday with a “How’s it going?” when you step off the car, right?
Second, knowing people who live close by has its perks.

This lovely luxury home for sale at Brittany Sta. Rosa features more living space and gardens amongst a sprawling landscape of greens.
One of them is the beauty of carpool. Do your kids go to the same school? Perfect, you bring them to school in the morning, and your cooperative neighbor can finish the job by bringing them home. Another perk can be having a helping hand. Say you bought the most amazing new couch at AllHome today and would love it if someone—anyone!—could carry the other end of it through the narrow door and up a flight of stairs. A neighbor can do just that, but only if you ask!
Thirdly and finally, you get to build a network.
Having a network can mean a lot of things. But mostly it means, having a wider scope of connections with people that you know. Imagine if you lived across someone who worked for Disneyland and you just happened to have some issues booking your time in Anaheim. Or think about a situation wherein your daughter was desperate to get a prom dress and a designer was fated to live just two blocks away from you. By no means are you supposed to take advantage of everyone, but having an open network of different connections might come really handy when you need it.
If by now you still aren’t convinced neighbors aren’t worth your time, remember that Jennifer Lopez was once just Jenny from the Block. You could be living in the same street as the next Philippine president and you’ll never know because you didn’t get yourself out into the world. So, step out of your luxury home sometimes and let the world get to know you!
