Last November 8, another expressway has announced the opening of its latest interchange – the Silang Aguinaldo Interchange of the Cavite Laguna Expressway.
MHI is the concessionaire for the Cavite Laguna Expressway. It is a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and is under the Metro Pacific Toll Corporation (MPTC) – its toll road development arm.
Other than the CALAX, MPTC also operates other famous and big expressway projects in the Philippines, such as the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), as well as the NLEX Connector Road.
The Cavite Laguna Expressway, or more popularly known as CALAX, 44.58 km long expressway which connects the Manila-Cavite Expressway, CAVITEX, in Kawit, Cavite to another expressway – the South Luzon Expressway, at its entry point in Biñan, Laguna.
By the project’s completion, CALAX is expected to reduce travel time between CAVITEX (in Kawit, Cavite) to SLEX (Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna) from 2 hours to only 35 minutes – a whopping 70% reduction.
The expressway starts at the CAVITEX connection and ends at the SLEX-Malampasan Interchange in Binan, Laguna. It has 8 subsections, 5 of which are completed and already in operation. The interchanges which are already in operation include the Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang East -and now the Silang (Aguinaldo).
CALAX currently has a planned total of eight interchanges and 1 toll barrier:
The CALAX Silang interchange on Aguinaldo Highway is the newest completed subsection on the expressway. It is subsection is 3.9 km long and has a 2×2 lane which starts from the Silang East Interchange.
This CALAX expansion has already served more than 10,000 additional motorists, as it is situated on the busiest and most congested highway in Cavite. This newly opened interchange has thrilled many motorists as it has made travelling to and from Silang, Cavite and Tagaytay City much faster.
With the current holiday season, motorists are eager to try out the new interchange. Furthermore, toll fees at the newly opened interchange are currently waived until further notice. Motorists are only charged up to the Silang East Interchange – the second latest addition of the expressway before the Silang Aguinaldo Interchange.
After Silang East, Silang Aguinaldo – Governor’s Drive is the next interchange planned to be opened and is currently still under construction. The subsection between Silang Aguinaldo- Governor’s Drive is expected to be 8.64 km long. – the second-longest planned subsection of the expressway.
