LRT 1 Stations: A Project for the Commuters of Metro Manila

The Light Rail Transit Line 1, or LRT 1, is a train system in Metro Manila, Philippines that is operated by the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC). It helps Filipino commuters travel every day, as it is a fast and affordable way to navigate the area. No need to get haggard by riding multiple buses and jeepneys, and no need to spend hefty amounts of money on cabs every day.

It has 20 stations currently, but in 2024, 8 new stations will have been added. All of these stations will be listed and described in this article.

Baclaran Station

Baclaran Station is located in the city of Parañaque, specifically in Baclaran, a barangay in the Northern part of the city. It is the southernmost station of the transit system and it is located near the popular Baclaran Church, also known as the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, a famous religious site in the Philippines.

EDSA Station

The Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, or EDSA, is a particularly busy street for commuters, notorious for its heavy traffic. Near the EDSA station are jeepneys, taxi cars, and bus stations such as the Victory Liner. The biggest mall in the country, the Mall of Asia (MOA), is just a jeepney ride away.

Students of Arellano University and the Philippine Law School can go down here.

Vito Cruz Station

Vito Cruz Station is located in the city of Manila, specifically along Taft Avenue near the intersection with Vito Cruz Street. It serves as a crucial transportation hub in the city, providing easy access to various educational institutions and commercial areas. The station is situated near De La Salle University, College of Saint Benilde, and also St. Scholastica’s College, making it a convenient mode of transportation for students and faculty. Additionally, it offers access to a lot of condos and restaurants nearby.

Quirino Station

Now you should stop at this station if you want to go the the Manila Zoo with your family. You can find it at the intersection of three streets: Taft Avenue, Quirino Avenue, and San Andres Street. You can also go to the Malate Church, the Manila Yacht Club, and the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center from this station.

Carriedo Station

Carriedo Station is situated in the city of Manila, specifically along Rizal Avenue near the intersection with Carriedo Street, a notable street in the area. Carriedo Station provides easy access to various parts of Manila and is located in a bustling commercial and shopping district. From here, you can go to Binondo, Divisoria, Escolta, or Quiapo easily, so you can go thrift shopping.

It is near the historic Quiapo Church, also known as the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, which is a significant religious and cultural site in the Philippines.

Doroteo Jose Station

Doroteo Jose Station is located in the city of Manila, specifically along Rizal Avenue and Doroteo Jose Street. Doroteo Jose Station is a key transportation hub in Manila, as it connects the LRT 1 stations to the LRT-2, another line of the Manila Light Rail Transit System. This makes it a significant transfer point for commuters traveling between different parts of Metro Manila via the LRT system.

The station is also situated in a busy commercial and shopping district, making it a convenient access point to various businesses and markets in the area, such as Isetann and Divisoria Mall.

Bambang Station

Bambang Station is located in Sta. Cruz, Manila, specifically along Rizal Avenue near the intersection with Bambang Street. It is situated near several hospitals and medical institutions like the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center and the San Lazaro Hospital, making it a convenient mode of transportation for individuals seeking medical services in the vicinity. There are also a lot of shops in the area that offer affordable medical supplies, which makes it a popular go-to for students of the health sciences.

Baclaran Station

Tayuman Station

The Tayuman Station is also in Sta. Cruz and it is near some business establishments and a couple of other popular destinations, such as the San Lazaro Hospital and the Espirito Santo Church. You can do some shopping in the Dapitan Market and also get affordable flowers in Dangwa.

Blumentritt Station

Next is the Blumentritt Station, which will get you to Tondo and Sampaloc. You want to go down here if you are headed to the Chinese General Hospital, Manila North Cemetery, or the Blumentritt Flea Market.

Abad Santos Station

The Abad Santos Station also connects riders to Tondo and Sta. Cruz. You should be able to find tricycles and jeepneys that will get you to places like the Ospital ng Tondo and the Manila Chinese Cemetery upon going down the station.

R. Papa Station

Going to the borders of Manila, you will encounter the R. Papa Station, which is placed near residential properties and places like the La Loma Cemetery and schools like Barrio Ebrero Elementary School and the Marulas Elementary School.

5th Avenue Station

Once you get to the 5th Avenue Station, you are in the Southern half of Caloocan City. There should be different modes of public transportation below the station to help you further with your commute to places like the Philippine Cultural College and the Northern Rizal Yorkin Chinese School.

Monumento Station

Monumento Station is located in the city of Caloocan, specifically at the intersection of Rizal Avenue and Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA). A lot of Filipinos take the actual monument for granted, but it commemorates Andres Bonifacio and his heroic activism that will never be erased in history. Stop at this station if you are going to the Caloocan City Public Library, the Malabon Zoo, or the University of the East Caloocan.

Balintawak Station

Balintawak Station is located in Quezon City, specifically in the Balintawak area near the intersection of EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue) and North Avenue. Make this your stop if you are headed to the Balintawak Market or the Balintawak Home Depot.

Roosevelt Station

Roosevelt Station is the northern terminus of the Manila Light Rail Transit System Line 1 (LRT-1) in Metro Manila, Philippines. It is located in the city of Quezon City, specifically along Roosevelt Avenue near the intersection with Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA).

Roosevelt Station serves as the final stop on the LRT-1 stations, making it an essential transportation hub for commuters traveling from the northern part of Metro Manila and neighboring provinces into the city. This station provides convenient access to places like the AMA Computer University, Quezon City General Hospital, WalterMart, and the Munoz Market.

In addition to these 20 LRT 1 stations, 8 stations are currently in progress. They are expected to be fully operational in 2024, catering to more Filipinos and more destinations. Here are the stations that will be added: Redemptorist Station, Manila International Airport Station, Asiaworld Station, Ninoy Aquino Station, Dr. Santos Station, Las Piñas Station, Zapote Station, and the Niog Station.
